ABOUT ME
Now into my sixties (wow just where did those years go to) and after the craziness that was 2020 /21  having a chance to go back to my early days when life was simpler and seemed a lot happier there was Airfix the brand that ruled my life in a good way for a long time before wine women and song entered stage left. I hope you follow me on my sexagenarians journey of re-discovery, it is meant to be a bit of fun or maybe not. One thing is for sure it becomes an addiction to keep adding to the stash, just cannot help myself.

You can find the me on The Modelling Man (@ themodellingman) and with fellow modellers at The Luftwaffe Modellers Group and the Vintage Airfix Kits Group all on facebook, you are welcome to join me and many other enthusiasts there.

The Reluctant Modeller
Or I should say not reluctant but full of trepidation after being away from my childhood hobby for so long, it must be going on fifty odd years since I last opened the box of an Airfix kit and lost myself in a different world. With the lockdown in March 2020 it was according to Julie my wife time to revisit that wonderful world.

With luck over the years I had bought various aircraft model kits with the vague notion in mind of going back to modelling, but as with many things one becomes easily distracted, life has a way of doing that and nothing ever materialised and the boxes where put away in the hidden depths of the dark loft, now I had to find them, luckily I did and I was a child in the 1960's all over again.
THE FIRST EFFORT (Spitfire)
New Projects
Passion
I must admit my passion is for the Luftwaffe aircraft of the Second World War, not that I don't love the allied aircraft of the era, as you can see above I chose to start my journey with the Supermatrine Spitfire it was just natural to do so. It was just something about the German designs and camouflage that seemed to make them more intresting and the names just added to the aura Junkers, Focke - Wulf, Heinkel, Dornier and Messerschmitt to name but a few.
The Challenge
I have decided for my next attempt to build the Messerschmitt Bf109E - 4 from Airfix in 1/72 scale, an old favourite and a suitable adversary to the Spitfire that I made earlier, such an iconic aircraft and easily recognised. If the eyesight and everything else holds up everything should be ok (joking). There will be mistakes a plenty but trying to put them right adds to the fun or so they say, I will let you know later if that's true. Let's see if we can do justice to this iconic aircraft. Will also hopefully get around to building the Junkers JU87 as per the image, but getting around to it could take years at the speed I work at.

Modelling Fun with the Messerschmitt Bf 109E
The nerd modeller in me
For fun and I can hear you all saying sad I like to delve deeper into information sourced from books or online regarding the project that is underway, for instance the Messerschmitt BF109. It is fascinating to study the various colour schemes applied to the aircraft and in doing so discovering the world of RLM (Reichs Luftfahrt Ministorium) official paint colours (hope you are all still awake) and the various model paint suppliers who cover them, like I said pretty sad really but it keeps me out of trouble so the wife says.

Next up the Hawker Hurricane Mk 1
Another classic from Airfix the Hurricane Mk 1 from its Battle of Britain days. It was a pleasure to build, nice and simple like me, brought back a lot of memories from my first childhood. One thing I have noticed is how as you get older you become less dexterous when handling the smaller bits of the kit, probably time to up the scale to 1/48th, we shall see, as long as I put my glasses on.
A 64 year old man enters his second childhood and why not in these crazy times.
If you have enjoyed the site let me know, if you have not still let me know.

No apologies for being a bit of a Luftwaffe nerd but not to the exclusion of the RAF.
